Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management

Award Summary:

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience required to manage a beach in emergency and non-emergency situations. This module is designed to expand on beach management topics covered in the Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue).

Unit/s of Competency:

There are currently no units of competency aligned with this award.


On successful completion the participants will receive the SLSA Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management.

Course content:

  • Responsibilities and duties of a lifesaver and beach manager
  • Legislation and regulations relevant to your beach
  • Managing your beach and the public
  • Media Management
  • Liaising with other organisations
  • Risk Management
  • Search and Rescue
  • Patrol Methods


  • Candidates must be a minimum of 17 years of age on the date of the final assessment
  • Candidates must hold a SLSA Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
  • Candidates must be proficient in one of the following awards:
    • Bronze Medallion/Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
    • Radio Operator Certificate
    • Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate
    • Senior First aid Certificate (Apply first aid)
    • Spinal Management Certificate

Course Duration:

The duration of the course is dependent on the experience of the participants. They are usually run over 2 full day

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Candidates will be required to demonstrate competency in all elements in the workplace. They will be required to complete activities that may include oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations of skills and performing scenarios.


This award does not require a yearly proficiency.


Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management courses are Branch facilitated and are run by SLSNSW endorsed facilitators.
