Senior First Aid Certificate (Apply first aid)

Award Summary:

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to manage emergency first aid situations until professional medical support is available. If run by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) this course is recognised by WorkCover NSW.

Award:

On successful completion participants will receive a Senior First Aid Certificate (Apply first aid) and a statement of attainment for the above units of competency.

Course content:

  • The principals of first aid
  • Managing emergency situations
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Treatment of infection, shock, fractures, bleeding and burns
  • Emergencies due to lack of oxygen, excess heat or cold
  • Management of common medical emergencies
  • Treatment of poisoning and envenomation

Pre-requisites:

Candidates must be a minimum of 15 years of age on the date of the final assessment

Course Duration:

Senior first aid courses run for approximately 15 hours plus assessment time. Many providers also have an online workbook option to reduce face to face hours.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you believe you already possess some or all of the skills and knowledge of this course, you may wish to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Consult the SLSNSW RPL Guide for Applicants available on the Participant Resources page of the SLSNSW website.

Assessment:

Candidates will be required to demonstrate competency in all elements in the workplace. They will be required to complete activities that may include oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations of skills and performing scenarios.

Proficiency:

Senior First Aid Certificates need to be updated every three years. CPR must be updated yearly for the award to remain current.
